College Chronicle

Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) is among the premier engineering colleges in India. It was established in 1940, originally as Delhi Polytechnic and was under the direct control of Government of India. The college is presently under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi since 1963 and is affiliated to the University of Delhi since 1952.

Vide Act 6 of 2009 Govt of NCT of Delhi has upgraded DCE to the State University with the name Delhi Technological University.

Delhi Polytechnic came into existence
1952
Delhi Polytechnic is affiliated to Delhi University
1955
B.Sc. (Engineering) degree in Civil Engineering is introduced
1963
Delhi Polytechnic is taken over by the then Delhi Administration
1965
Delhi Polytechnic is renamed as Delhi College of Engineering
1966
M.Sc. (Civil Engineering specialization in Structure) full time (2 yr. duration) and part-time (3 yr. duration) courses are introduced
1971
Start of M.Sc. Engineering courses in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
1972
B.Sc. (Engineering) course of 5 years duration are introduced in Electronics & Communication Engineering. All the departments start M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs
1973
Department of Electrical Engineering introduces M.Sc. (Engg) courses in Instrumentation & Control, and Advanced Electronics; the Department of Mechanical Engineering introduces M.Sc. (Engg) courses in Thermal, and Production; the Department of Civil Engineering introduces M.Sc. (Engg) courses in Structure, Hydraulics & Flood Control, and Public Health Engineering
1977
Electrical Engineering Department introduces M.Sc. in Power Systems
1979
Duration of B.Sc. engineering courses, is reduced from 5 years to 4 years and the degree is renamed as B.E.
1981
Department of Physics starts M.Sc. course in Applied Physics
1982
The college starts B.E.Tech. Courses in Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering
1985
Department of Chemistry starts M.E. in Polymer Technology
1985
Delhi Administration established Delhi Institute of Technology (Presently Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology)
1988
B.E. degree course in Production & Industrial Engineering was started
1989
B.E. degree course in Computer Engineering introduced
1989
The foundation stone of New Campus of DCE is laid
1998
B.E. degree level courses were started in Polymer Science & Chemical Technology and Environment Engineering
2002
B.E. in Information Technology intoduced
2005
B.E. in Biotechnology intoduced
2009
DCE granted autonomous status as Delhi Technological University
